May 11

This announcement is for the High School Model UN ONLY. Dear Parents/Guardians, The time has arrived ! In about 4 days the WJPS Model UN team will be attending the UNA-USA Middle School Model UN Conference on May 14-16 Our delegates have been working very hard towards this event. To make this phenomenal experience as enjoyable as possible, we must commit to the following: Don’t be late!

Thurs – We will be leaving WJPS via school bus by 9:30 AM. We will be attending a training session and will attend the opening ceremony which starts at 6 AM. Please bring a metrocard along with money for lunch and the gift shop. Our group will be arriving back at Main Street, Flushing by 8 PM. Please arrange for pickup if necessary.

Fri – We will meet at WJPS at 7 AM sharp! We will leave together for Day 1 of committee sessions. Again, please make sure you have a metrocard (at least $4 and) and money for lunch. Sessions end at 4:30 PM and we will go back to Queens together. Please arrange for pickup at Main Street, Flushing (around 5:30 PM)

Sat– We will meet at Main Street, Flushing in front of Old Navy at 7:30 AM! We will leave together for Day 2 of committee sessions. Again, please make sure you have a metrocard (at least $4 and). Lunch is provided on this day but you should bring some money anyway Sessions end at 4:30 PM and we will go back to Queens together. Please arrange for pickup at Main Street, Flushing (around 5:30 PM)

Dress to impress! Please wear your WJPS uniforms (khakis, white oxford shirts, and blazers). This is a professional event so make sure that your clothes are neatly pressed. Try to refrain from wearing flashy ornaments, jewelry, or anything that might seem inappropriate. Girls may wear skirts but the hems must not reach below the knees. The gentlemen can wear ties if they choose to. If you can, wear dressy shoes instead of sneakers. We received a LOT of compliments last year from the Model UN staff and other schools on how polished and impressive everyone looked! Keep unnecessary electronic devices turned off! Delegates are permitted to use laptops and PDAs during the conference, but only for conference-related work. Cell phones must be turned off at all times. MP3 players (such as iPods) may not be used during the event. Any delegate found using any prohibited items, including iPods, cell phones, magazines, etc., will have the item taken away and held by the Delegates committee’s Chair until the end of the conference. UNA-USA is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Pack light! Please do not carry a heavy backpack into the United Nations. This will slow down the security process and you will have to drag the bag around ALL day. I will carry a camera with me so you do not need to pack one in your bags. My pictures will be shared with the whole team. (If you are interested in taking part in a car pool, please let me know). Sincerely, Mindy Fong 7th/8th Grade Social Social Studies Ms.fong@live.com

Hi all!
Just a reminder to those who still need to bring in their permission slips: I will not be at WJPS on Monday so please leave these in my mailbox (main office). Bring your own lunch! If you would like a school lunch, you need to let me know ASAP.
We will leave as soon as the bus gets to WJPS on Tuesday morning. (Anywhere from 8:30 to 9 AM).
High school students, please make sure you are in the building by 8:30 AM. I will find a room where we can stay until it is time to go (most likely the pub lab, so meet me there if you cannot find me on Tuesday)This is a formal remembrance ceremony to commemorate a somber time in world history at the UN, so PLEASE dress accordingly (Uniform with blazer, khakis, and nothing flashy - bright ornaments, inappriorate clothing). We should be arricing back at WJPS at around 1 PM.
Let me know if there are any questions!
